SONET/SDH Evolution

Don’t Outgrow – Evolve your Network

Rather than spend the time, incur the expense, and impose potential community disruption of laying new fiber, address fiber exhaustion using a flexible, Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) solution; the affordable and versatile alternative to traditional 10G SONET/SDH upgrades.

BTI SONET/SDH Network Evolution Solutions

  • Converge SONET/SDH overlaid network rings on WDM wavelengths to reclaim fiber capacity
  • Leverage dedicated wavelength per client or multiplex SONET/SDH clients running at different speeds for efficient wavelength utilization
  • Utilize Coarse WDM for cost-effective, moderate capacity for metro/access networks or Dense WDM which offers high-capacity and reach extension capabilities for metro /regional deployments
  • Reclaim fiber assets and postpone or avoid the need to deploy new fiber and rapidly enable the addition of new revenue generating services via virtual fiber

The network you need

Traditional SONET/SDH networks are being pushed to their limits thanks to new, bandwidth hungry applications such as video streaming and P2P file transfer. Reactionary SONET/SDH network overlays increase network complexity, consume fiber assets, and don’t effectively deliver an efficient method for Ethernet transport. Network architectures need an evolution path to ensure that they are able to cope with the massive increase in network bandwidth.
SONET/SDH-based networks need to be simplified and converged to support new Ethernet services yet not sacrifice legacy revenue streams. Making the strategic decision to deploy WDM infrastructure provides increased network capacity, a consolidated and simplified optical layer, and enables convergence of existing SONET/SDH infrastructure with next generation service delivery capabilities.
