Middle Mile Networking

Online & In Touch: Broadband for All

The American Recovery and Re-investment Act (ARRA) provide a broad offering of stimulus funding to rejuvenate the US economy. Broadband stimulus programs offered through the National telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) offer total funding of $7.2B. The combined focus of the programs is to expand broadband access to areas not currently served or underserved by high speed connectivity to the Internet and other IP-based services and to improve education and healthcare network capabilities in rural areas to support applications such as distance learning and telemedicine.

Network solutions from BTI Systems are an integral part of rural broadband deployments, leveraged by many rural access providers and Independent Operating Companies (IOCs). BTI’s packet optical networking strategy for the Middle Mile minimizes network infrastructure and overlays, provides scalable capacity, lowers deployment costs and simplifies network management to improve the business case for addressing rural population areas.

Packet Optical solutions for the Middle Mile

  • Packet-enable the network

Leverage Layer 1 and Layer 2 Ethernet connectivity to simplify the delivery of IP-based applications and services including high-speed Internet access, IPTV, Voice over IP (VoIP), and 3G/4G mobile wireless

  • Provide operationally efficient infrastructure

Converge a Carrier Ethernet-based packet services delivery capability with a WDM network foundation eliminates the need for separate Layer 2-only switches and delivers scalable capacity from 2.5Gbps to 400Gbps over a single fiber pair

  • Scale beyond SONET

WDM is the affordable and versatile alternative to traditional 2.5G and 10G SONET/SDH overlays. Pre-deployed passive elements enable rapid network capacity augmentation with plug-and-play, add-a-wavelength simplicity onto existing fiber-based networks

  • Simplify network deployments

Packet optical platforms offer extended temperature support, AC/DC power options, pluggable optics, and a complete optical toolkit for reach extension, fiber network adaptation, and capacity requirements to adapt to any network environment
