BTI's cloud networking solution is based on the BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect system, an open, software-rich platform that combines the intelligence and flexibility of routing with the capacity and scale of optical bolstered by the efficiencies and extensibility of applications integration. It has been specifically designed for content and service providers to address the exponential growth of traffic flowing in and out of data centers - to other data centers, users, peering points or partner networks - as a result of the transition to cloud services.
The primary cloud networking solution components include:
The BTI proNX Management and Control Software provides centralized intelligence and control for BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platforms. The Management and Control Software features an extensive Web Services API that streamlines integration with Operations Support Systems (OSSs) and Business Support Systems (BSSs) or other external applications, by providing an abstraction layer that shields programmers from the details of the underlying network infrastructure. By deploying a centralized management and control layer, the Software makes it easy for external applications to provision resources and orchestrate services that span devices and geographies. With the BTI proNX Management and Control Software, providers can leverage automated Software-Defined Networking (SDN) programs to dynamically turn-up services or expand network capacity to address changing application requirements or business needs in real-time.
The BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platform is a software-rich, high performance, high density L2+ networking system purposely designed for cloud connectivity. Fully integrated with the existing BTI 7000 series and BTI proNX Management and Control Software, the BTI 7800 Series provides a seamless upgrade path from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps Coherent wavelength capacities with industry-leading scale, density and performance. The open platform integrates this high-capacity optical switching with MPLS label switch routing (LSR), carrier Ethernet and bandwidth on-demand to meet the massive scalability and flexibility requirements of the cloud at a fraction of the cost of alternative networking solutions.
Unlike expensive full-fledged L3 routers that are engineered to support resource-intensive core routing protocols such as BGP, the BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platform is implemented as a pure label switch router that is optimized for cloud connectivity applications. By designing a new system from scratch, excluding unnecessary core route processing and look-up overhead, the BTI 7800 Series is able to achieve significant cost advantages over legacy systems. In addition, by delivering optical and L2+ switching capabilities in a single platform, with unified management and control, the BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect enables providers to consolidate equipment and network layers, simplify administration, and contain operating expenses.
The BTI Applications Module for the BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platform is a compact, high performance, self-contained operating environment for hosting BTI, third-party, and custom Network Function Virtualization (NFV)-based applications. The Applications Module has its own processors, storage, and memory, which operate independently and don't impair L2+ networking performance. The module provides a standards-based, open application operating environment as well as open APIs that allow BTI partners, ISVs, or customers to streamline development and accelerate time-to-market for custom and NFV-based applications.
The Applications Module provides programmatic access to the LSR data plane enabling the instantiation of advanced L4-7 applications deep in the network. Third-party applications enabling NFV can inspect packets, execute analytics, and control traffic flows directly in the network for data mining, WAN or application optimization, traffic steering, security, capacity planning, policy management, service orchestration or other functions.
The BTI 7000 Series is a high-density converged packet optical networking system that addresses the increasing demand for packet-based services, greater optical capacity, dynamic networking and management simplicity. It provides an optimal foundation for cloud networking applications with industry-leading densities in a compact form factor, conserving precious space and power.
The BTI Dynamic Optical Layer - an integrated component of BTI's packet optical networking platforms-is a system-oriented network foundation. Combining reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing, reach extension, and end-to-end service- and path-centric management capabilities, the BTI Dynamic Optical Layer provides simplified operations and enhanced automation. The touchless and modular nature of the Dynamic Optical Layer architecture simplifies the design, installation, operation and optimization of agile metro service delivery networks.
Information & Resources:
Conventional data center connectivity solutions designed to support enterprise applications and traditional data transport services are too costly, complex, and inflexible for today’s on-demand cloud networks. Today cloud networks are built with separate layers of discrete switching, routing, and optical networking elements that are costly with limited flexibility. Re-provisioning these networks is manually intensive, involving multiple devices and administrative interfaces. Expanding network capacity often means adding more network elements thus increasing operational expenses (space, power, cooling) and adding complexity (more administrative touch-points).
Massive Scale and Capacity with Ultra-Low Latency
Unlike conventional data center connectivity products, the BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platform enables content and services providers to deliver four times the capacity with higher performance, including 50% lower latency. Leveraging the latest processing, compute and 100G Coherent networking technologies, BTI’s Intelligent Cloud Connect offers a flexible modular architecture that scales to over 10 Tbps in a single rack, at half the capital equipment expense.
Improved Economics with Integrated Applications, Routing and Optical Layers
Combining network intelligence and applications awareness with large scale capacity, the BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platform delivers market-leading optical scale with a quarter of the space and power requirements compared to separate layers of discrete routing and optical networking elements. Taking advantage of a universal fabric architecture, BTI’s Intelligent Cloud Connect reduces network complexities and operations cost by up to 50%.
Rapid Service Innovation with Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-Enabled Open APIs, Programmability and Automation
The BTI Intelligent Cloud Connect platform integrates seamlessly with important applications as well as a service provider's operations environment. By leveraging the SDN-based framework and APIs, service and content providers can construct highly adaptable and programmable network fabrics that are better suited for today's virtualized, elastic service environments. External applications can leverage abstract Web services APIs to dynamically orchestrate services in response to evolving business demands or application requirements. Providers can use SDN applications to programmatically monitor network conditions, automatically provision network resources and attributes, and influence traffic flows in real-time to optimize performance or enable differentiated services. BTI's Intelligent Cloud Connect is also interoperable with third-party standards-based OpenFlow compatible SDN controllers.
Superior Resource Optimization with Advanced Network Intelligence and Analytics
The BTI Applications Module for BTI's Intelligent Cloud Connect is a compact, high performance, self-contained operating environment for hosting BTI, third-party, and service provider specific applications. The Applications Module has its own processors, storage, and memory, which operate independently without impacting system networking performance. The module provides a standards-based, open applications operating environment as well as open APIs that allow BTI partners, ISVs, or customers to streamline development and accelerate time-to-market for custom and NFV-based applications.
