Integrated Ethernet Services Modules

The packetVX™ (PVX) Ethernet services module family provides an innovative approach for rapid delivery of new Ethernet-based services. Integrated into a BTI 7000 Series platform, the packetVX™ modules provide Ethernet service aggregation onto 10 Gbps Ethernet rings, coupling packet switching functionality with Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM).

Managed as an integrated component of the BTI 7000 Series platform, the Ethernet service delivery capabilities dramatically simplify operations, management and provisioning of residential, video and Ethernet business services using a converged network approach.

Features

Carrier Ethernet

Delivers increased network scalability, Service Level Agreement (SLA) enforcement, and comprehensive Operations, Administration and Maintenance, (OAM) features. Service-oriented fault detection, verification, isolation, and notification capabilities monitor performance and identify network issues for quick recovery.

Ethernet Business Services Functionality

The packetVX offers per-flow packet classification, policing, marking, and mapping to enable various classes of services and convergence of different applications on the same packet infrastructure. An extensive suite of optical and Ethernet performance statistics simplifies Service Level Agreement (SLA) monitoring and provides end-to-end service visibility.

Simplified Provisioning and Sparing

The packetVX family’s convergence of Carrier Ethernet switching and aggregation with optical networking in one module simplifies networks significantly. Software selectable G.709 OTN capabilities add FEC/EFEC for extended reach, optical layer performance monitoring, and an in-band management communications capability. Pluggable (SFP), 10G SFP (XFP), and tunable 10G XFP optics enable packetVX™ modules to connect GbE and 10GbE over fiber and ITU-T WDM wavelengths.

High Availability

Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) provides sub-50ms protection for high network and service availability.  It provides protection for node and/or link failures within single or interconnected rings and ensures that there are no loops formed at the Ethernet layer.

MEF Certified

The packetVX module family has been certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) which verifies compliance to MEF 9 and 14 technical specifications and provides independent validation of Carrier Ethernet service functionality.
