BTI extends network backbone to deliver gigabit services across four cities
Ottawa, Canada—Wednesday, March 28, 2007 // BTI Photonic Systems, a global supplier of microWDM networking solutions for the delivery of gigabit services, today announced Vtesse Networks is using its optical networking platform, Netstender, to extend the capacity and reach of their backbone network in order to support one of the UK’s largest financial institutions. Vtesse, the UK’s largest supplier of converged optical network services, is leveraging BTI’s technology to deliver Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to major financial sites across a 10 Gigabit Ethernet private line (EPL) backbone.
The backbone built by Vtesse provides the financial institution with a network architecture that delivers voice, video, and data to its major sites. With Vtesse’s high-capacity fiber network to deliver reliable gigabit services connectivity the institution is able deliver high volume bandwidth-hungry applications throughout their network. Vtesse chose BTI’s carrier grade platform with its integrated optical amplifiers, optical multiplexers, and 2.5 gigabit wavelength regeneration capabilities to deliver a platform that was flexible to meet a range of architecture deployments that included supports for single working bidirectional fiber on part of the network that was fiber constrained. The integration of all the optical functions into Netstender provides Vtesse with complete network visibility from their network operations center for greater manageability.
“BTI’s microWDM was the most cost effective solution that met the stringent requirements and provided full management visibility of all key optical functions on this mission critical network,” said Alan Mitchell, CTO of Vtesse Networks. “The microWDM solution provides us with the means and flexibility to easily expand the network as the delivery requirements for new broadband services increase.”
The BTI Netstender combines optical layer functions into one platform creating an easy-to-manage system that is easily integrated into the network to extend reach and expand fiber capacity. Vtesse is leveraging BTI’s platform to interconnect networks between Leeds, York, Middleborough, and Newcastle.
“As more businesses require greater network support for the delivery of gigabit services, Network Operators are adopting more flexible technologies to build out their fiber reach and extend the capacity of their fiber assets,” said Paul Harrison, Vice President Global Sales of BTI Photonic Systems. “Our solution allows Vtesse to meet their immediate and future fiber capacity expansion requirements in a flexible and cost-effective manner with a pay as you grow network solution.”
