BTI Systems Facilitates Video, Content Streaming for S.I. Net
S.I. Net Improves Customer Quality of Experience with Transparent Caching Solution from BTI Systems
Ottawa - December 6, 2011
In a move to manage network costs and drive new revenue opportunities, S.I. Net, Cambodia’s leading provider of high-speed Internet, fiber and hosting services, chose WideCast, the transparent caching solution, from BTI Systems. With WideCast, S.I. Net is able to cache the most popular video, applications and other content and improve the quality of experience for its customers while significantly reducing its IP transit costs.
Cambodia’s efforts to expand and upgrade its telecom infrastructure have been growing as demand for Internet connectivity continues to increase at unprecedented rates. With a strategic focus on supporting the booming business and consumer markets, S.I. Net is leveraging its investment in WideCast to create an integrated and comprehensive content delivery solution across its network. S.I. Net joins leading carriers in the Asia Pacific region in working with BTI Systems, the networking company that creates high-capacity, application-aware service infrastructures for the metro, to incorporate the latest technologies to bring its subscribers the next generation of broadband services.
“Investing in our broadband network is a key element in our ability to respond to the changing needs of our customers,” said Meta Sy, general manager of S.I. Net. “BTI Systems gives us the right synergy – the technology to deliver new, feature-rich content while we reduce our costs for operations, administration and maintenance.”
WideCast is a multi-service caching solution that allows S.I. Net to cache all types of content, including video, software updates, peer-to-peer traffic and web-based file sharing. An integrated caching and networking solution, WideCast combines BTI Systems packet optical networking technology for traffic redirection with the transparent caching server. This simplifies the deployment without the need to implement policy-based routing. WideCast is currently caching an average of 35 percent of IP traffic for S.I. Net and improving the quality of experience for its customer by shortening the distance that content travels, thereby reducing latency and improving throughput in excess of six times the average. WideCast also contains an extensive analytics engine that provides detailed analysis of traffic patterns, demand drivers and insight into the most requested user content to help improve customer perception of network speed and quality.
The deployment of WideCast in the network for S.I. Net is just the beginning. WideCast is coupled with the BTI Systems 7000 Series packet optical networking platform and integrated packetVX™ Ethernet services modules as its underlying foundation. With its ability to redirect packet optical traffic at Layer 2/Layer 4, the 7000 Series will allow S.I. Net to deliver Ethernet-based services and expand its 10GbE metro network in the capital city of Phnom Penh.
“Like many regions throughout South East Asia, Cambodia is entering a new era for broadband architecture and BTI Systems is helping carriers like S.I. Net to open the door to a new wave of broadband communications,” said Marc Olivier, vice president of Business Development, Asia for BTI Systems. “Our integrated approach will allow S.I. Net to preserve the value of its investment in WideCast and reap substantial returns while striking the right balance between improving the end-user quality of experience and reducing infrastructure and bandwidth costs.”
