Fiber to the Enterprise

You need your enterprise network to do more and you need to connect more users to that network than ever before. And, your business is moving more business critical information across networks that cover vast geographies and you need to make sure that information is moving safely, efficiently and reliably all of the time.

As the fibre infrastructure has become more prevelant, Fiber to the Enterprise (FTTE) is becoming a more attractive strategy to deliver necessary business critical services.  Copper’s presence in service delivery networks, as fiber builds continue deeper and deeper into the access, will diminish rapidly in the coming years.  A study by the Vertical Systems Group indicates that the majority of large Enterprise sites are fiber-connected with business fiber availability rising to 22.9% in the U.S. and 15.1% in Europe.

Previously, enterprises required separate services, using disparate technologies, for voice communications, ecommerce, collaboration, data backup, and VPN connectivity. In addition to being billed for independent services, the multiple circuits required to provide sufficient bandwidth and offer redundant connections made the enterprise WAN very complex and also not cost-effective.

Service Delivery TransitionWith the prevalence of IP-based services for voice, video collaboration, data center communications these can all be converged onto the same pipe and offered as one bundle, one bill, and at a much lower cost based on a more cost-effective service delivery foundation. This single pipe approach is driving bandwidth requirements, combine this with distributed business models, and increased prevalence of multimedia collaboration between remote facilities and the throughput required has–or will quickly exceed–services based on copper (and bonded copper) offerings.

So what value can an FTTE-based service offering  bring to your business? Notwithstanding the cost savings the organization can realize by a single pipe solution, the solution can be:

  • Customized – specialized bandwidth and services architectures are easily implemented to meet a each different organizations needs
  • Compatible – multi-site connectivity seamlessly integrates with your data center infrastructure
  • Simple – dedicated services, with high bandwidth delivering congestion-free, scalable connectivity
