BTI Bandwidth Fall 2009 Edition
Hello, welcome to the Fall edition of BANDWIDTH.
This edition of bAndwidth provides insight on how we’re continuing to evolve the BTI portfolio to address changing network requirements and provide customer confidence with certified solutions. We are totally focused on positioning the company to meet the accelerated demand for packet optical networking globally. BTI’s new campaign is based on “the network you need”. This represents the ability to deliver comprehensive networking capabilities for a broad range of solutions with significant operational value. The BTI team is all about delivering these capabilities and enabling our customers to meet the increasing demand for packet services, greater optical capacity, dynamic networking, and management simplicity in both service-provider and enterprise networks.
I am pleased to announce that we have once again been awarded Deloitte's Canadian Fast 50 Technology for the fourth consecutive year. For us this is an acknowledgement of our companies commitment to delivering innovative solutions for wavelength and packet-based delivery of video, storage, wireless data and data center connectivity where and when it’s needed.
I encourage you to read through this newsletter updating you on our exciting product developments and visit our refreshed website.

“Any Wavelength Anywhere” — The Value of Wavelength Tunability
Next Generation Pluggable Optics
Today, BTI Systems uses small form factor pluggable optics, SFPs and 10G-capable XFPs, on our modules. Pluggable optics have the advantage of being “hot swappable”, allowing us to use standard industry parts sourced from multiple vendors, and simplify network sparing with a module that can be customized to any customer network requirement opposed to having multiple, fixed optic modules.
SFPs and XFPs enable wavelength translation that increases network capacity by converting 850nm and 1310nm client equipment connections into WDM wavelengths. Leveraging multiple different WDM pluggable optics “colors” allows us to multiplex multiple channels onto the same fiber pair, increasing network capacity. Translating client signal wavelengths into a specific area of the spectrum enables extended reach, leveraging amplification technologies to extend signals beyond their typical operating range. Product Highlights
Enhanced G.709 OTN Capabilities, New Modules, and an Expanded DWDM Wavelength Plan
We continue to enhance our Intelligent Services Edge solutions by introducing G.709 Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities for the packetVX family of integrated packet services modules. G.709 OTN is a key market differentiator providing resiliency, reach and performance for 10Gbps WDM wavelengths.
Our packetVX OTN implementation supports a General Communications Channel (GCC) for management communications, Forward Error Correction (FEC and Enhanced FEC) for improved throughput and reach, and Layer 1 performance monitoring (CV, ES, SES) for improved network and service visibility. Software enhancements include the addition of Carrier Ethernet Services (EPLINE, EPLAN, EVPLINE, EVPLAN) on the packetVX modules, and of QoS/CoS on the packetVX modules. The packetVX OTN implementation is also fully interoperable with BTI’s 10G Transponder portfolio. [read more]

BTI 7000 Series Enhances Interoperability Capabilities In Brocade Based San Environments
Brocade Data Center Ready Status for Storage Networking Modules
BTI Systems has recently completed certification of the 7000 Series Dual 4G Multiprotocol Transponder (1, 2, 4G Fibre Channel), Dual 10G Multiprotocol Transponder (10G Fibre Channel), and the 10-port Multiprotocol Muxponder (1, 2, 4G Fibre Channel), complementing the Dual 1G and 2.5G Multiprotocol Transponders previously certified by Brocade Communications Systems Inc.
Brocade’s certification program includes comprehensive testing for compatibility with Brocade switches and directors in multi-vendor SAN environments. This is a key industry certification that indicates BTI Systems’ platforms meet the high standards of Brocade’s rigorous testing; our customers and partners can be confident about the performance BTI Systems storage solutions deliver. For further information you can review the press release or Brocade’s current compatibility matrix document.
BTI Systems is also part of Brocade’s Technology Alliance Partnership program that is focused on developing and delivering complementary network solutions.
For more information on storage extension considerations, a new whitepaper is available.
